Discover La Tasca.it

Tucked along Carrer d'Amadeu, 22, 08370 Calella, Barcelona, Spain, La Tasca.it feels like the kind of place you stumble upon once and then keep returning to every time you’re in town. I first visited on a warm summer evening after a long walk along Calella’s beachfront, and what caught my attention wasn’t just the cozy terrace or the hum of conversation drifting onto the street-it was the aroma of grilled seafood and slow-cooked sauces that instantly signaled authentic Spanish cooking.

The menu reads like a celebration of Mediterranean flavors. You’ll find classic tapas-patatas bravas with a smoky, slightly spicy sauce, pan con tomate made with ripe local tomatoes, and perfectly crisp calamari. On my second visit, I decided to go beyond the small plates and try their seafood paella. The rice was cooked in the traditional wide pan, allowing it to develop that slightly crispy socarrat at the bottom, a technique many chefs consider essential for a truly authentic paella. According to the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and several culinary institutes in Spain, the balance between stock absorption and heat control is what defines a quality paella, and here you can tell the kitchen understands that process well.

What stands out most is the sourcing of ingredients. The staff mentioned that much of their seafood comes from regional suppliers along the Catalan coast. That focus on freshness isn’t just marketing talk. Studies from organizations like the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health highlight the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet-rich in olive oil, fresh vegetables, seafood, and whole grains-and La Tasca.it clearly leans into those principles. Their grilled dorada, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and served with seasonal vegetables, reflects that simple yet powerful philosophy: quality ingredients, minimal fuss, maximum flavor.

Over time, I’ve noticed how consistently the kitchen executes its dishes. During one visit in peak tourist season, when the restaurant was nearly full, the service remained steady and attentive. The waitstaff walked us through the daily specials, explaining how the chef slow-braised the oxtail for hours to achieve tenderness. That level of detail builds trust. It shows they’re not just serving food; they’re proud of their craft. Reviews from frequent diners often mention the same thing-reliable quality and a welcoming atmosphere.

The wine list deserves attention too. Spanish reds from Rioja and Ribera del Duero sit alongside crisp Catalan whites. If you’re unsure what to order, the team is happy to suggest pairings. On one occasion, I followed their recommendation to pair grilled prawns with a chilled Albariño, and the citrus notes of the wine lifted the sweetness of the seafood beautifully. It’s small touches like this that elevate a casual dinner into a memorable experience.

Location-wise, being in central Calella makes it easy to reach whether you’re staying nearby or just exploring the area. It’s a short walk from the beach and close to other local attractions, which makes it a convenient stop for lunch or dinner. That accessibility adds to its appeal, especially for travelers looking for an authentic meal without straying too far from the main promenade.

Of course, like any popular spot, weekends can get busy. Reservations are a smart move if you’re planning a visit during peak hours. While the menu covers a wide range of traditional Spanish dishes, those looking for highly experimental or avant-garde cuisine might find it more classic than cutting-edge. Still, for lovers of hearty tapas, fresh seafood, and comforting Mediterranean plates, it delivers exactly what you hope for.

After several visits across different seasons, what keeps bringing me back isn’t just the food-it’s the consistency, the honest flavors, and the sense that the team genuinely cares about the dining experience. In a coastal town filled with dining options, La Tasca.it stands out not because it tries to be flashy, but because it focuses on getting the essentials right: good ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and warm hospitality that feels unmistakably Spanish.

  • Ok I’m sure I’ve now found the best Italian in calella! Wanted to try here when first arrived and chose not too biggest mistake of my visit. Anyway I finally got to try it and incredible, this could be my biggest score yet! Arrived early to avoid disappointment as it’s only a small intimate restaurant, greeted by maybe the owner? Or head chef but either way we talked about pizza and pasta and everything nice and I told him to make me what ever he wanted too when it comes to pasta and he did not disappoint. I’ll talk about the pasta, freshly made, incredible flavour cooked to perfection, no shop bought pasta here let me tell you! I had a Guanciale based dish with tomato sauce, again the cooking here was superb. The ragu was full of depth throughout but also kept simple real tomato base getting sweetness yet acidic, so much happening on the pallet but also so simple so fresh and tasty! Really was one them dishes you could eat over and over. Served with little garlic bread too mop up all that good juices left over, and trust me my plate was clean! Also we had pizza, standard margarita but again freshly made pizza dough, sauce and quality cheese, nice depth of flavour again the classic combo of cheese and tomato sauce done to perfection, the undercarriage was charred throughout and good crust to the pizza too! This guy really knows how to cook, he’s serious about flavours! I could speak highly of this place all day! From first view you may think you’ll pass when walking by the restaurant but do not make this mistake! Go in there and eat it all! Solid food great flavours! Im going to score this 9.5/10! Only reason its not 10/10 is just the pizza don’t hold just flops slightly and I do like my pizzas to hold their shape but that’s personal for me. Update - went back for second time and wow!! This really is the real deal!

  • Homemade pasta and bread were delicious. Owner (?) / chef was very proficient in both Spanish, Italian and English and was a joy to be served by. Very small and homey restaurant.

  • Huge pizza fan here, for authentic pizza. This guy knows what he is doing. There’s was a small queue of people waiting for it to open for takeaway, and for good reason. The pasta is fresh and pizza is hands down the best I have ever had. I have ate in some great places.

  • Small place in downtown with handmade pasta and pizzas. It was so good and probably the best pasta we have had our whole trip!

  • We ordered takeaway pizza several times from this place, on our way back from the beach. The dough is amazing! Any flavor we tried was really good. The pizza is ready in around 10 minutes. The restaurant itself looks quite authentic but it is really small with just couple of tables and with no toilet.

  • We we're scheptical about choosing Italian food in Spain and would rather eat local but my friends insisted they want pizza and beers. Choosing La Tasca proved to be one of the best decisions made in our holiday in Spain. Simple. Tasty. Excelent pizza. Friendly staff. Very good atmosphere. Good price and nothing fancy. Would HIGHLY recommend it.
